About LBD

Hi! I’m Laura Beth Daws, but my friends call me LBD. Welcome! And call me LBD.

I spent 17 years teaching thousands of college students the communication skills they needed to succeed in their lives and careers. I also took on numerous leadership roles on projects large and small, ultimately directing a School of Communication & Media with over 60 direct reports and 1,600 students. I’ve facilitated, created, and led countless initiatives that moved us forward, and mentored students and peers along the way.

Now, as the President and Founder of my own communication consulting and coaching firm, I look forward to sharing what I’ve learned with a bigger audience.

My mission is to help people become better communicators. The best leaders, parents, friends, and global citizens are the ones who understand and act on principles of good communication skills. I have the knowledge and practical experience to help with a wide range of communication problems facing our world today. To say I’m passionate about the field is an understatement. But, when something strikes me as interesting, I go all in. I’m a big fan of stories, nuance, and research-related rabbit holes. I’d love to share my enthusiasm of the field with you.

When I’m not working, I run, swim, do yoga, ride my Peloton bike, spend time in the woods and on the water, and kayak.

I started LBD Communications to help even more people solve complicated communication problems. I expect to continue to research, teach, and serve my community, just like I did as a professor, but now I get to do so on a different scale. It’s super exciting and I’m glad you’re here. Contact me and let’s work together soon!
